Khosla Family Closes Record $9.612 Billion Purchase of Seattle Seahawks

The historic sale of the Seattle Seahawks has officially crossed the finish line. On Thursday, August 27, 2026, the Khosla family officially closed its record-breaking $9.612 billion acquisition of the franchise from the estate of late Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen. The transaction was finalized immediately following a unanimous 32-0 vote of approval by NFL owners during a league meeting in Atlanta on Wednesday, August 26, 2026.

The purchase price of $9.612 billion sets a new high-water mark for the most expensive professional sports franchise sale in history, far eclipsing the previous NFL record of $6.05 billion set by the sale of the Washington Commanders in 2023. The new controlling ownership group is led by tech billionaire Vinod Khosla, along with his wife Neeru and their son Neal.

A unique complication of the deal involves Khosla’s existing sports holdings. In 2025, Khosla purchased a 3.1% minority stake in the San Francisco 49ers. Under NFL rules, he is required to completely divest from the 49ers to avoid a conflict of interest as the controlling owner of the Seahawks.1 However, because finding an approved buyer and completing the 49ers' internal approval process takes time, Khosla will temporarily hold stakes in both NFC West division rivals.

"The Khosla family officially closed its purchase of the reigning Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks for $9.612 billion on Thursday."

"As noted by Front Office Sports, Khosla and his family still own 3.1 percent of the 49ers. It can take some time to find a buyer, and the 49ers (per FOS) have final say over the person who acquires it. For now, Khosla will hold at least 30 percent of the Seahawks — and more than three percent of one of their biggest rivals."
