Tech-Funded Nuclear PPAs: Amazon Adds Calvert Cliffs 690 MW to the Fleet-Wide Pattern

The tech-nuclear PPA pipeline widened again this month. On October 1, 2026, Amazon signed a 20-year power purchase agreement with Constellation Energy for 690 MW from Calvert Cliffs — Maryland's only nuclear plant (1,790 MW, two reactors). Per Benzinga, the deal "is expected to support more than $3 billion in infrastructure investment in Maryland, including about 190 MW of new emissions-free generating capacity expected to come online between 2030 and 2032." Amazon and Constellation also entered a separate retail electricity supply agreement covering Amazon's operations across the 13-state PJM market, and Amazon's "long-term commitment is also expected to support Constellation's efforts to renew Calvert Cliffs' operating license for another 20 years."

"This agreement demonstrates how private investment can strengthen critical energy infrastructure," said Constellation CEO Joseph Dominguez.

This slots into the pattern tracked all fall: Google's 890 MW uprate PPA across 11 Constellation reactors (Oct 6), Georgia Power–Google's Vogtle/Hatch uprate and ZEC subscription filed with the Georgia PSC (Sept 21, PSC decision still pending), and Meta's 2.6 GW Vistra PPA (January). The common structure: hyperscaler long-term revenue underwrites uprates, license renewals, and restarts of the existing fleet — capacity that arrives years before any new-build SMR can.

Market read-through: Constellation's TTM revenue is up 23.0% YoY ($31.27B) and it beat Q2 EPS estimates ($2.55 vs $2.36 est); the stock at $271.37 is still 32.0% below its 52-week high, with CIBC initiating Buy coverage at a $358 target on Oct 17.
