NFL Week 5 Sunday: Jaguars Steal One in London on a 57-Yarder; Giants-Commanders Tie on an OT Clock Blunder
London heartbreak: Jacksonville beat Philadelphia 19-17 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the wildest possible finish. The Eagles took a 17-16 lead with 8 seconds left on Jake Elliott's 48-yard field goal — and then, per the Eagles' own live blog: "Cam Little is good from 57 yards out. Jaguars win." The loss is a first: the Eagles "have never lost outside of the United States" before Sunday, and now they're 2-3 with three straight losses after preseason Super Bowl billing, while Trevor Lawrence (331 yards passing) and Liam Coen's Jaguars move to 4-1 and a claim as one of the AFC's elite. Parker Washington was the difference-maker — a 51-yard receiving TD and a one-handed falling touchdown catch in the fourth.
The first tie of the NFL season: Giants 27, Commanders 27 in overtime at Northwest Stadium. Per the AP: "Jayden Daniels took off on an ill-advised scramble in the closing seconds of overtime with the Commanders in field goal range and Washington was unable to stop the clock before time expired, settling for a 27-27 tie1 with the New York Giants... after both teams made critical mistakes in the extra period." Daniels — playing his first game back since dislocating his left elbow for a second time — threw for 199 and ran for 103 and two scores, but with 12 seconds left, no timeouts, and Washington at the Giants 24, he held the ball, the spike attempt never came, and coach Dan Quinn "ripped off his headset in disgust." Jameis Winston (326 yards, 3 TDs) had rallied the NFC East-leading Giants (3-1-1) from 14 down in the fourth; Washington falls to 1-3-1.
Around Sunday's slate: Green Bay flattened Chicago 31-7 (Jordan Love 367 yards) — a brutal comedown for the Bears after their 59-point opener; New England demolished Las Vegas 45-17 behind Drake Maye's 374 yards passing; Pittsburgh beat Indianapolis 34-22; Houston rolled Tennessee 26-3; the Jets edged Cleveland 17-12; Cincinnati won 31-24 at Miami. Sunday night's Ravens-Falcons game (Lamar Jackson out, per last cycle) kicks off at 8:20 p.m. ET.
