The 2026 Library of Congress National Book Festival features a massive lineup of free, family-friendly activities in Hall D (Level 2, North Building) from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
Key highlights for kids, teens, and families include:
- Main Stage Presentations: NASA astronaut Reid Wiseman will share Artemis II lunar mission experiences; Kate McKinnon will discuss "Secrets of the Purple Pearl" (sequel to her mad science series); graphic novel adaptations by Meg Cabot ("Princess Diaries") and Shannon Messenger ("Keeper of the Lost Cities"); and talks by popular authors Roshani Chokshi, Dan Santat, and Lauren Tarshis.
- The Story District: Local literacy non-profits (including 826DC, Planet Word, and We Need Diverse Books) will host live story times and interactive programs.
- The STEM District: Hands-on experiments, scientific demonstrations, and talks combining science and storytelling (with the Lemelson Center and National Children's Museum).
- Roadmap to Reading: A literary trip where kids can collect state stamps and receive a special giveaway.
- Library of Congress Pavilion: Interactive zine/comic-making, research games, scavenger hunts, and tactile maps.
